Don Wilkison

IG: ministerofinformation

As much civil servant as artist, Don Wilkison’s work is informed by his scientist’s background. As m.o.i. aka The Minister of Information, he works in a variety of approaches and media, including collaborative public installations and interventions, experimental film, photography, print making, and sculpture. His civic engagements lie at the intersection of middle-class economics, progressive politics, and environmental science. This is an art practice rooted in active experimentation uncovering how human actions intersect with the world.

About the works.

These sculptures were created for a project entitled Perpetual Motion. The works interrogate and play with the notion of “perpetual motion” from both a scientific and artistic perspective. Two works, Perpetual Waterfall and Perpetual Turntable, are powered by solar-charged batteries. Perpetual Sign is powered by the action of people riding a stationary bike that generates electricity which then both turned the sign and allowed for the participate and viewers to charge various electronic devices. Up to 4 devices could be charged at once. Found and reclaimed objects (including the solar panels) were used to produce each work.
